When it comes to Chemistry, one of the most important aspects is the periodic table. The periodic table is central to learning Chemistry in an effective manner and solving complex problems. The periodic table is a tabular presentation of the elements wherein the elements are arranged according to their atomic number, the configuration of electrons, and the properties the elements exhibit. Learning the periodic table is a necessity for students when they begin with Chemistry in school. However, most students find it very tough to learn the periodic classification of elements.

In the periodic table, one of the basic things to remember is that metals are on the left side of the table, whereas the non-metals are on the right side of the table. Another important thing to always remember is that the symbols of the elements are from their Latin names, and therefore it is necessary to know the Latin names of the elements. Further, students must always remember that a group is a vertical column in a period table and is also called a family. A period is a horizontal row of the periodic table, and a block refers to specific regions of a period table. It is important for students to remember the group to which an element belongs to memorize the periodic table.

Here are a few simple tricks to learn the modern periodic table with ease.

1. Prepare a hard copy: One of the best ways of learning the classification of elements in a very easy manner is to develop a hard copy of the elements. This copy can be either hand-written or printed and learned in parts to ensure that no part of the table is left out. With personal action of writing, it becomes very easy to memorise the elements.

2.Try to segregate the chart: One of the easiest tricks to learn the periodic table is not to learn it in one attempt. The best way to learn the classification of elements is to divide the table into sections. When the table is divided into sections, one set of elements can be learned at a time making it easy to learn the elements of the table in the right sequence. The periodic table is already divided into groups of elements and students can further subdivide these groups and learn small bits of the table at a time to learn the whole table.

3.Use abbreviations, mnemonics: A good way to learn all the elements of the periodic table is to use abbreviations or mnemonics. Students can use creative abbreviations and mnemonics to ensure that they can learn the elements falling in a specific group in the table. The best way is to associate elements with things or places that are seen in daily life. This helps in memorising the modern periodic table very easily.

4.Use flashcards: A very interesting and easy way of learning the classification of elements is to use flashcards. Students can make flashcards with the names of elements which is a good exercise to memorise the names of elements. Further, playing with these flashcards in some way or the other or using them for repetitive learning helps students learn the elements in the right order.

5.Link and story method: One of the best ways of learning is link and story method. In this method, the learning object is associated with another object or event and a story is framed around the object. The same applies to periodic tables as well. Students can link the various elements to different events or objects around them and frame a story around the elements. This helps learning the classification of elements easy as well as effective. The advantage of this technique is that students will not forget the element names because of the creative story that has been constructed around the element.

6. Music: The use of music and songs helps students to memorize the periodic table easily. With a catchy tune, students are able to remember the names of the elements in no time. This method also makes learning the periodic table repeatedly less boring.

7.Interactive tools: There are many interactive tools also available online these days to help students memorize the classification of elements. These tools can be used to visually memorize the periodic table elements and are also a fun way of learning the elements in the right order.

With the above simple tricks, it is possible for all students to memorize the periodic table. The easiest and simplest way is to repeat the names of elements falling in a specific group. With these tricks, it is possible for all students to solve complex problems and questions related to elements and their electronic configuration, and also the atomic number and mass of the elements, thereby excelling at the subject.
